If you’ve been thinking about remodeling your bathroom, building a new deck or completely redoing that boring kitchen, why not start up now? There are projects every month that are great for the time of year. A 2024 home makeover calendar is shown below to help you plan your year of changes.

January

Being inside and remodeling your bedroom might be a good idea while it’s cold outside. If you want to change the look of your bedroom, all you need is new paint, mold remediation and decorations. When stores start showing off new design trends in January, floor coverings and paint are often on sale. So get these deals while you can.

The best time to paint inside is in January, even though your heating bills might go up a little because you’ll have to crack the windows to let air flow. Paint dries and sets faster when it’s cold outside than when it’s warmer and more humid.

February

Would you like to add any more rooms? In February, the ground is usually hard and the air is dry, which makes it a great time for workers to pour concrete. The crazy spring weather could make the spot too muddy in a few weeks, which would slow down the building process.

The cold ground in February, on the other hand, is perfect for digging the base and pouring concrete footers.

Like painters, builders are often less busy in the winter. This means you have a better chance of getting a job and maybe even a deal.

April

Now that spring is here, workers will have a lot more work to do. Right now is the best time to start do-it-yourself jobs like painting your deck, putting up a new fence, or changing the way your yard is landscaped. Building stone walls or adding water features are some other outdoor projects you might want to think about.

If you want to hire a contractor for a big job, make sure you talk to them a few months in advance…You might have to put off your summer home projects until next year if you don’t.

As the earth warms up in April, it’s also a great time to start your garden. You could plant hardy veggie seeds like parsnips, broccoli, cabbage, and carrots.

June

As summer starts to heat up, check your doors and windows to see if they’re letting cool air out. Windows account for 25% to 30% of a home’s energy costs, so making sure they are properly sealed can help you save money on your energy bills.

Using weatherstripping, fill in any cracks around the edges. Upgrade your old single-pane windows to newer ones with better insulation. During the hot months, put thick curtains in front of your sliding glass patio doors to keep your home even cooler.

September

As summer ends and autumn begins, September often has warm weather. Do work on your roof now. You should fix any holes, do residential waterproofing or missing roofs so that rain and snow can’t get through.

The next thing you should do is clean out your drains of leaves, sticks, and dirt. Before it rains more in the autumn, you should make sure the gutters are in good shape.

Water could damage your home if your roof leaks or your gutters get stuck. Holes and cracks can also let bugs and other pests in and even damage the building itself.
